Learning Objectives

  1. Learn approaches to utilizing trauma informed / patient centered principals during patient care & documentation.

  2. Develop a framework for evaluating & managing cases of human trafficking in the health care setting. 

  3. Identify where to find available resources.


  1. Describe the demographics of patients most affected by violence in their population and/or community 

  2. Describe the different types of interpersonal violence and risk factors for injury and recidivism

  3. Describe how the acute care setting can be a unique setting to interrupt the downstream impacts of violence injury and re-injury

  4. Identify resources on a departmental, regional, and national level that can address violence in the acute care setting

  5. Reports having recognized community violence as an important social determinant of health for at least one patient encounter per month
