SEM is a discipline within emergency medicine that embraces the critical importance of the emergency care system as the front-line interface of social determinants of health and health disparities between healthcare systems and communities.
What is Social Emergency Medicine (SEM)?
Why a SEM Curriculum?
Emergency Medicine plays a critical role in addressing health disparities, yet emergency medicine training remains devoid of standardized education to recognize and address health inequities
How to Use This Curriculum:
This curriculum is free, downloadable, and modifiable. It is best viewed using Microsoft PowerPoint in order to maintain the intended spacing, animations, etc. However, the lecture slides are also viewable using Google Slides. While this curriculum has been designed to function as a stand-alone curriculum, each module contains lectures, references, and materials that can be used to create or supplement any preexisting lecture or curriculum (e.g., medical school, residency, fellowship, etc.). A video lecture library is also actively being created for independent and asynchronous learning activities. It has been our intention from inception to make this project widely integrative and collaborative for learners of all levels and in all locations.
